FAQ

When are credentials sent?

Credentials have been sent for everyone who has registered up to 6:30 PM PDT (UTC-7) the Friday before the conference. If you register after that time you will receive your credentials by 4:00 PM PDT the next day. During the conference, credentials will be issued within two minutes of registration. We suggest you “allow list” both registration@hotchips.org and credentials1@hotchips.org in your email service.

Where are my credentials?

Start by searching in your Spam, Junk or Promotion folder. The subject line is “Your Credentials for Hot Chips…” The sender is “Hot Chips” and the sender’s email address is registration@hotchips.org. If that does not work, please send a message to help@hotchips.org. We will reply directly to you with a copy of your credentials.

Copy the visible link text directly into your browser URL bar.

When will presentation PDFs be available?

Presentation PDFs for a given day will be available 7AM (PDT) on the day they are presented on tutorials or conference pages.

When do presentations begin?

Live presentations begin at the times shown in the program schedule at https://hotchips.org. All program presentation times are PDT (UTC-7).

Will the presentations be recorded? If so, when will the recordings be available?

Live presentations will be recorded and available for replay shortly after each session concludes. Until these presentations are made generally available to the public, the stream recordings will remain available to you using your conference credentials. The recorded videos are accessible in a playlist here. The talks are available in session long segments. You will need to scan to find the start of an individual talk.

When will the recordings and slides be available to the general public?

By mid-December, we will post the videos to Youtube and the slides to https://hotchips.org just as we have done in the past. Until then the conference site will remain available for viewing slides and replay for registered conference attendees.

My password lets me access the pdfs, but not the videostream. What do I do?

The credential management for PDFs and videos are different. You credentials email (subject line is “Your Credentials for Hot Chips…”) should contain both.

I want to download all of the PDFs at once!

After the conference, we will have the full “proceedings” available to download as a single zip file. For now only individual presentation PDFs are available and a zip file of the currently available PDFs.

My video doesn’t work. Help!

Follow these standard debugging steps:

  1. Reload the page
  2. Try viewing the video at the source player only or player + playlist (not embedded in hotchips.org site)
  3. Close the tab. Reset your videostreamingprovider cookies, cache, restart the browser & reauth.
  4. Turn off your VPN
  5. Try using a different browser (repeating these steps).
  6. Check your local internet (download) speed
  7. Adv Users Only: Reset your network access card / assume something is cached improperly & vpn elsewhere / …

Other video tips

  • You’ll get infinite buffering if your browser thinks it’s authed, but the server disagrees and doesn’t serve video. You need to get to the challenge prompt again.
  • Scrolling with the mouse wheel adjusts the volume. <- Accounts for most local volume issues.
  • Most of these steps are designed to force the video player to start from scratch, which fixes 90% of issues.

Is there a Google Calendar (or ical) of Program?

Yes, gcal

Connecting to Stanford WiFi

To you use the sponsored wifi, do the following:

  1. Select the “Stanford” wifi network (NOT “Stanford Visitor”) in your wifi SSID network selector on your machine.
  2. Either let your system’s wifi prompt you with “sign in required”, or open a web page.
  3. You’ll get redirected to a Stanford page. Click “Sponsored Wireless Guest”
  4. You’ll get a new page.

On platforms that are NOT Android: 5a. Click “Sponsored Wireless Guest” again.

On Android: 5b. Read the instructions and manually copy or type the URL of the page into a web browser. This might involve typing exactly https://snsr.sunet.stanford.edu”. Note that https is required, not just http or not :// header. And note that “snsr” and “sunet” are easy to misspell (ask me how I know).

  1. You’ll get a popup asking for user name and password. Type “HOTCHIPS” (ALL CAPS) for user name and “hotchips” (NO CAPS) for the userid.
  2. This should let you sign into the Stanford Wifi network under Hot Chips guest credentials.
